The Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, in Enugu State, Mr. Hilary Nasamu, has disclosed that 11 corps members would repeat their service year.
Nasamu disclosed this at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, on Thursday, during the passing out parade of the Batch “C” corps members in the state.
He said while 2, 879 corps members passed out, one person had his service extended for breaching the bye laws of the NYSC.
Nasamu, however, said that the state government would reward 21 of them for their excellence in service.
He said the first 10 would receive the State Governor’s Honour Award with a cash prize of N100, 000 for the first position, while the second to the 10th position would receive N80, 000 each.
“The next 11 corps members will receive the NYSC State Governing Board Chairman’s award with a cash prize of N60, 000 each”, he added.
In his speech at the event, Governor Sullivan Chime of the state urged the corps members to make the necessary sacrifice required in their chosen career to achieve success.
Chime also told them that it was important they sacrificed in other human endeavours in life if they must completely be successful.
He said, “Some of you may be rightly apprehensive of what tomorrow holds for you. I want to assure you that it is bright. As educated young men and women with requisite skills, the sky is your limit.
“However, you must recognise that the road to success has never been easy. History has shown that no individual or nation has ever achieved success without sacrifices”.
The Enugu State governor said that through their education and participation in the National Youth Service Corps scheme, they had been equipped for survival in a competitive world.
Nevertheless, Chime said that government was aware of its responsibilities and was determined to continue to create the enabling environment for them to realise their potentials to the fullest and succeed.
He said, “It is largely for this reason that my administration is implementing policies to reinvigorate various sectors of the economy in order to create employment, alleviate poverty and enhance standard of living generally.
“This notwithstanding, you have been equipped for self-employment through the entrepreneurship and skills acquisition training of the NYSC.
“I advise you to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the government and management of the NYSC to access micro-credits loans for the establishment of small scale enterprise”, he stated.
