49,000 Candidates Apply For Admission Into Fed Poly, Oko For 2013/2014 Academic Session.

No fewer than 49,000 persons applied to study various courses at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra in the 2013/2014 academic session.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Mr Obini Onuchukwu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Oko on Thursday that 25,000 actually took part in its post universal tertiary matriculation examination.

“Unfortunately, the institution has the capacity to offer admission to less than 5,000 students,” Onuchukwu said.

He said the number of applicants rose from 45,000 in the 2012/2013 academic session to the current figure.

According to him, the development is an indication that the institution is on a steady growth.

He urged the federal government to increase the capacity of the polytechnic to accommodate more students willing to study there.

“We are asking the government not only to increase the carrying capacity of students’ admission but to also grant us a status of university because we know we are ready for a smooth take-off.

“The institution currently has not less than 30 doctorate degree holders and not less than 100 Masters’ degree holders undergoing one course or the other within and overseas,” he said. (NAN)
