ABU VC URGES PILGRIMS TO PRAY FOR END TO ASUU STRIKE

Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha yesterday urged intending pilgrims going for this year’s Hajj to pray for the end of the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) while in Saudi Arabia.

“I want to use this opportunity of Hajj to appeal to all Nigerians especially those embarking on this highly spiritual mission to the holy land to pray to the Almighty Allah for the country’s unity, sustainable peace and immediate resolution of the FGN-ASUU dispute,” the vice chancellor said.

Professor Mustapha in a statement by his media aide, Malam Waziri Isa Gwantu, said the non-resolution of the dispute may affect Nigeria’s image in the eyes of international educational community.

Meanwhile, the airlift of pilgrims from Borno State will be completed by Friday, deputy governor of the state, Alhaji Zanna Umar Mustapha has said.

Mustapha, who doubles as the Borno State Amirul Hajj said more than 60 per cent of the 2,700 pilgrims from the state have been airlifted to Saudi Arabia by Max Airline.

The deputy governor said the state government had spent over N600 million to ensure the pilgrims had a pleasing and rewarding experience during the Hajj.
