Akwa Ibom State University has admitted one thousand, six hundred and forty-eight (1,648) students into the six faculties in the University in its 5th matriculation ceremony held at the Main Campus Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

145——Faculty of Education,
336——Faculty of Engineering,
349——Faculty of natural and Applied Sciences and
361——-Faculty of Social & Management Sciences.
In his address the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Eno James Ibanga congratulated the students on their admission into the University noting that the number of students admitted into the 2014/2015 session is about 32% increase from the 1,253 students who matriculated during the 4th matriculation ceremony. He reiterated that Akwa Ibom State University is aimed at providing students with the best education possible and turning out the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs who will sustain the Nigerian economy.
The Vice-Chancellor enjoined the matriculating students to keep their matriculation oath by shunning all forms of criminality including cultism and examination malpractices as the university has zero tolerance for any form of misconduct adding that they should not allow peer pressure to influence or distract their attention from their academic work. He reiterated that the University is committed to expanding the frontiers of knowledge by enabling students and Faculties to solve problems and work collaboratively across disciplines for the greater good of the University, State and Nigeria.
Professor Ibanga lauded the Akwa Ibom State Government for its unique model of governance which has given room for administrative autonomy and academic freedom in the University observing that the support which the management has earned from the Governing Council, Senate, Staff and Students has led to the University’s achievements in the past months.
The event which featured the formal admission of the students into the university by the Vice-Chancellor and the administration of Matriculation Oath by the Registrar, Mr. Samuel Udoekong was attended by Principal Officers of the University; Deans of Faculties, Senate. Also the staff, students and general public was present to witness the event.
