ASUP Strike: NLC Criticised Wike’s Method of Negotiation With Striking Poly Lecturers.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday criticised Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike in his negotiation with the striking members the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU).

The congress in a statement signed by its President, Abdulwaheed Omar in Abuja, noted that recent breakdown of talks between Wike and the leadership of the unions over the full implementation of the 2009 agreement it signed with the federal government, is at best irresponsible on the part of the minister who it said took a hardline position and refused to move any inch in the negotiations to allow for mutual consensus.

Omar in the statement called on the government to as a matter of urgency end further suffering of students in the affected polytechnics and colleges of education by bringing to an end the protracted strike which the union embarked on since October and December 2013 respectively.
