During the presidential media chat Last weekend, president Goodluck Jonathan reveal that, The Federal Government is working effectively on the lingering Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, and the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU strikes.
President Jonathan, said that the“Polytechnics are being handled by the appropriate committee.”
He further said that,“In our constitution, it’s unambiguously stated that if people go on strike for a day, they should not be paid for that day. You will forgo your salary for that one day because you want to communicate with the public and the Government about your concerns.”
The strike embarked upon by ASUP is almost reaching eight months, and COEASU for five months and the Federal Government gives it less concern.
The Federal Government has inaugurated the Committee saddled with the responsibility of bridging the dichotomy between holders of Higher National Diploma, HND, and First degree.
The committee was inaugurated on tuesday by the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Inaugurating the committee, Supervising Minister of Education said it was in line with the final process of resolving one of the key demands of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, who have been on strike.
