The Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnics, ASUP embarked on an indefinite strike since October 2013 to protest the failure of the government to kick-start the re-negotiation of an agreement it signed with them in 2009, which was due in July 2012.

ASUP is demanding the implementation of CONTISS 15 Migration for the lower cadres in the polytechnics and the release of the White Paper on the visitations to federal polytechnics more than one year after the exercise, as well as the failure of the government to commence a Needs Assessment for polytechnics.

The union is also demanding an end to the HND/B.Sc dichotomy.

The current ongoing strike embarked upon by the union which is over 10 months now have Erased both the first and second semester calender.

The question is; Will polytechnic admit student this year? When will the newly 2014/2015 admitted students commence academic activities. What will happen to the students that are admitted In 2013/2014 session?

When will the Federal government and the lecturers resume dialogue and resolve the impasse by making compromises on both sides?

This are many questions begging for an answer.

Without much doubt, the 11- month old strike have it’s own Negative effect on returning student and prospective student

The strike will create an unhealthy school calender and will also increase the year of study.

All candidate that will be offered admission will have to wait for many month before resumption will be effective.

ASUP has been on strike since October 4, 2013
