ASUU strike: GOVT HAS SHIFTED GROUNDS – Sambo

The Federal Government has again appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call-off its strike in the interest of students, education and the development of the country.

Vice President Namadi Sambo, who made the appeal while commissioning the Bauchi State University, Gadau in Bauchi said:”The Federal Government has already shifted grounds in response to the union’s demands, so ASUU should reciprocate the gesture by calling-off the strike”.

Sambo added that the Federal Government is rehabilitating its railway system to ease transportation as well as developing the health, agriculture sectors and training of youths on Industrial Computer Technology in order to create wealth and make room for private investors to come in.

He assured Bauchi State of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) intervention funds in the area of education, saying that one of the goals of President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda is to address infrastructural problems militating against the educational sector.

Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda, on his part said plan for the university was conceived by the immediate past administration, but that the implementation was carried out by his administration.

Yuguda said the university was established on September 23, 2011, following the approval of the National University Commission.
