An appeal has gone to Nigerian students to use the ongoing nationwide strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to engage in serious studies.
A businessman, Nnamdi Osuagwu, in a chat with newsmen in Owerri yesterday, reminded the students that as soon as the strike is called off, they would embark on a crash programme in order to meet up with the academic load.
Osuagwu observed that if the strike is allowed to continue it would expose the nation’s youth to dangerous acts such as kidnapping, robbery, smoking and other associated anti-social behaviour.
Commenting on the inability of many students to gain admission into tertiary institutions, he enjoined the federal and state governments to encourage more private sector participation in tertiary education.
