Despite the Federal Government directive that all academic staff in all federal universities should should resumed work on 4th December, which was later extended to 9th December or face sack, the Lecturers of the Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto State, have vow to continue with their over five-months old strike. They insist on the implementation of the resolutions reached at the ASUU meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan before resuming work.

This was contained in a statement signed by chairman of the UDUS’ branch of ASUU, Dr. Faruk Tambuwal. The resolution, according to the statement, was arrived at during their executive council meeting held on Tuesday.

The statement reads in part:

“The state executive council of ASUU, UDUS branch has resolved unanimously to continue with the strike until the Federal Government implements the resolution reached with President Jonathan. This position was arrived at during the congress meeting on December3, 2013”.

Also in an interview with our correspondent, Dr. Tambuwal said no amount of threat would force them to shift ground.

“We will not be intimidated by any threat, we will continue to stick to our position of no implementation, no resumption, and on this we will never shift ground,” he said.
