Report reaching liveschoolnews.org news desk has it that, The national leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) has threatened a showdown with the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Biyi Daramola over what has been described as uncultured attitude towards their members.
According to the National Vice President who also doubles as the Chairman Western Zone of the union, Comrade Alfred Jimoh, the Vice Chancellor of the institution does not want to give any room for a peaceful dialogue that could promote industrial relations in the institution.
Jimoh who described Daramola as “incapacitated for the position he occupies” alleged that the Vice Chancellor abash him and his team on Friday in his office when he came to pay him a courtesy visit and table some issues affecting his members before him.
Some of these issues he said included the non payment of the salary of those who were demoted, terminated and later recalled in 2012.
The Zonal Chairman said he was trying to appeal to him that he should pay the salaries of the affected staff, who were not paid during that period that they were on suspension before Daramola started shouting them down.
“Whenever we are holding our meeting in any institution, we always deem it fit to interface with the head and management team of the institution and with that respect, we paid a visit to the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, but we were so amazed that he is not fit to occupy the office of the Vice Chancellor, going by his personality.
“We barely mentioned any of these issues that took us to his office before he started shouting. The Vice Chancellor does not have the patience to listen to union leaders to express their views, to the point that he was shouting us down. The vice chancellor was banging the table and shouting like an uneducated man.
“He did not allow us to talk at all. We do not have any dispute with him, rather we eulogize him for initiating a number of developmental projects been executed in the university. Again, we thanked him for resolving labour dispute in the University.
“We could not table all the issues we intended to bring before him for a simple dialogue, therefore he has frustrated the peaceful dialogue. Consequently, SSANU national and FUTA branch have drawn a battle line with Professor Daramola.
“If Daramola will not allow dialogue on labour issues, then there will be crisis in the University. He thinks he is the owner of the institution and so frustrate attempts to dialogue with labour union.”
The Vice Chancellor could not be reached as the time of filling this report.
