Two Students of the Northern Universities who specialise in snatching people’s cars at gun point have been apprehended by the Men of the FCT Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The suspects, who are undergraduate students in one of the Northern universities, were said to have operated early last week with sophisticated weapons in Abuja, where they snatched a Honda pilot car.

A competent source at FCT SARS’s office, told grapevine that the driver of the car that he was being followed by the suspects.

The source said the suspects followed him with a Honda Academy car and that when they got to Jahi area, they blocked the Honda Pilot, threatened to kill him if he refused to hand over his car keys. According to the source, when he gave them the keys, the suspects threw him inside the trunk of the car to prevent him from raising an alarm and dropped him somewhere thereafter.

“As soon as they dumped him, they zoom off but a day later, a person at the suspects’ school, who knows the stolen car, called the owner and told him that he saw his car being driven by some students. The owner of the car then informed the police, who went to the university to effect the arrest,” the source narrated.

The source said that when the owner saw the vehicle, he recognized it and with the help of SARS officials, the boy driving the car was apprehended.

“The boy said the car was sold to him at N800,000 and that he had already paid half of it.

We told him to call the guys that sold the vehicle to him to come and collect the remaining money and when he came, he was immediately arrested. He confessed that he steals cars in FCT and takes them to the university where he sells them to willing students,” the source added.

When contacted, FCT SARS commandant, Chief Superintendent Femi Adelegan, confirmed the arrest and said that of the three suspected armed robbers, two have been apprehended and they have made useful statements.

FCT Police Spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Emeka Onya, confirmed the arrest, saying the police have begun investigation and that the outcome would be made public soon.
