Academic activities were this morning paralyzed at the University of Ibadan (UI), as the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the institution locked all lecture halls.

Academic activities have been halted in almost every departments of the institution as students could not enter the school premises following the closure of the entrances to the school by the aggrieved workers. grapevine gathered that the union members are on strike.

A student who did not want his name in print told our reporter that they met the lecture halls locked and no one has explained the reasons of the strike.

“I have no idea why NASU is on strike,” he said.

“But they locked all lecture rooms and theatres this morning.”

He added that some of the academic staffs are also unaware of the strike and had wanted to hold lectures.

“The lecturer who addressed us said the lecturers are willing to work but the NASU issue has to be resolved first,” the student added.

It is believed that the strike action is connected to the Federal Government’s order that universities should stop payment of salaries of teachers of University Demonstration Primary Schools (UDPS).
