The authority of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) yesterday faulted reports that students of the institution protested over lack of water in their hotel at Ekenwan campus.
It explained that though students expressed concern over the lack of water supply on campus that very day, explaining that it was not the cause of the authorities but that of the people responsible for pumping water in the campus.
According to the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Harrison Osarenren, “it is not true that students have not had water for two days as reported; the campus has enjoyed steady water supply on campus but we learnt that those responsible for the pumping of water were not on campus to do their job.”
“That was why, when the university’s authority learnt of the incident, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Osayuki Oshodin immediately ordered water tankers to go and supply water to the campus.”
“And after that, the issues were resolved and students went about their normal business. The Vice Chancellor is a father and a tested and trusted administrator that will not allow his children to suffer a bit.
“The university is committed to ensuring and maintaining the prevailing peace in the university and will not tolerate any attempt to cause disaffection in the university” the university said.
