  1. Visit mis.unijos.edu.ng and scroll down to select Application Forms. Click Create Account and then click Postgraduate to create an account using a functional email address and phone number. Your account will be activated automatically upon creation.
  2. To pay for the application form, visit www.remita.net
    1. Click “Pay a Federal Government Agency”
    2. Name of MDA – type “University of Jos”
    3. Type of Service/Purpose – Select “PG APPLICATION FORM”
    4. Fill other details to generate and note the payment reference number (RRR) and pay the fifteen thousand naira (N15,000.00) only application form fee using any of the available channels such as Bank Branch, Internet Banking, Debit (ATM) Cards, etc.
  3. Visit mis.unijos.edu.ng and scroll down to select Application Forms. Click Continue Registration and log in to your account with your email and password to continue filling out the online application form.
  4. Carefully fill out and save each tab. Also, ensure that you upload the required credentials and certificates in PDF format.
  5. After filling out all the tabs, click Complete Application to submit the application.
  6. Download, print and transmit the Transcript Request Form for your transcript to your university to process, with the address of Department of your choice.

The hard copy of your transcript should be sent directly to the Department of your choice, and not to the School of Postgraduate studies.

Postgraduate Courses and Entry Requirements

ENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

  1. A candidate seeking admission must possess five credit passes, including English and Mathematics and other relevant subjects at “O” Level. Candidates seeking admission into a Master’s Degree or Postgraduate Diploma of the University of Jos must hold a good (first or second class) Honours Degree of this University or of other Universities recognized by the Senate of University of Jos. The first degree must be in a discipline relevant to the programme into which admission is being sought.

 

  1. A candidate seeking admission into an M.Phil/Ph.D.  programme must in addition possess a master’s degree in the relevant discipline. M.Phil/Ph.D. candidates are in addition required to have returned a Cumulative Score Average (CSA) of 60% and above in the final assessment result for the Master’s Degree as well as 60% and above in the Research Project. On admission, M.Phil/Ph.D candidates register for M.Phil in the first instance and on satisfactory performance may be subsequently upgraded to Ph.D registration.

Entry Requirements:

M.Phil/Ph.D. candidates should possess at least a second class upper degree at the B.A.  level and a good masters of Arts degree in the relevant discipline from recognized Universities. The M.A. must be of the standard specified in the Regulations Governing higher Degree and Diplomas.

 

M.A. programmes:

Entry Requirements:

To qualify for admission into an M.A. programme, a candidate must possess a good honours degree (B.A.) in the relevant discipline (Linguistics) with preferably a first class or a second upper division from a recognized University.

The candidate must possess a good Honours Degree in Education. An M.Ed. candidate with a first Degree other than B.A (Ed.), B.Sc. (Ed.) or B.Ed. must possess a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or evidence both of high attainment in the proposed area of study for the Masters of Education Degree and also of breath of study shown to the satisfaction of the Faculty by such things as existing qualifications, publications, etc.

 

At least two years teaching experience judged appropriate for the Faculty of Education or at least three years’ experience in Education other than as a teacher, judged appropriate for this purpose by the Faculty. A candidate with a second class upper or above is exempted from this provision. Candidates with B.Sc (Ed) or B.Ed Degrees awarded by the University of Jos or any approved University may be qualified for admission to read M.Ed (Curriculum) and M.Sc (Ed) Educational Technology.

Entry Requirements:

Candidates for M.Phil./Ph. D in Architecture should possess a Master’s Degree in Architecture with a Cumulative Score Average of above 60% from a recognized University.

 

M.Sc. programmes:

Entry Requirements:

Candidates for M.Sc. Architecture must possess a first or Second Class Degree (B.Sc.) in Architecture or a Third-Class Degree with one year post-qualification experience plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture from the University of Jos and must have undergone a prescribed practical oral examination comprising presentation of the portfolio of work done during the one year period.

 

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes:

Entry Requirements

The requirement is a third-class degree from the University of Jos, or any recognized university by the University of Jos.

M.Phil./Ph.D. Programmes:

    2. M.Phil./Ph.D. Construction Technology

Entry Requirements:

Candidates for M.Phil./Ph.D. Construction Management should possess a Master’s Degree in Construction Management, Project Management or any relevant construction Engineering Discipline.

 

M.Sc. Programmes:

  2. M.Sc. Construction Technology

Entry Requirements:

Candidates for M.Sc. Construction Management must have obtained degrees (First or Second class) in Building Technology, Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying. Candidates with at least 2 years of relevant working experience have an added advantage.

 

For M.Sc. Construction Technology, the first Degree should be in the area of Building/Building Technology or Civil Engineering.

Postgraduates Diploma Programmes:

Postgraduate Diploma Building (PGD BLDG)

Entry Requirements:

B.Sc. Building, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering with third class degree.

 

HND certificate (minimum of lower credit) from any recognized polytechnic with a minimum of three years relevant working experience.

 

B.Sc. Estate Management, Urban and Regional Planning. Geography, Economic Business Administration or law with minimum of second class lower degree.

 

All candidates must in addition, satisfy the general entry requirements of the University of Jos.

Candidates may be accepted for M.Phil./Ph.D. Degrees in Environmental and Resources Planning, Population and Manpower Planning and Urban and Regional Planning. Such candidates should possess M.Sc. or M.Phil. Degrees in relevant disciplines from recognized Universities.

 

M.Sc. Programmes:

Entry Requirements:

Candidates for M.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning (URP) Programme must possess a good Second Class Honours Degree in Geography or Planning. A Third Class Degree or its equivalent and appropriate Postgraduate Diploma (in URP, Building, Estate Management or Architecture) from a recognized University with a minimum of 5 years post-graduation experience.

 

Postgraduates Diploma Programmes:

Postgraduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning

Entry Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree in any of Geography, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Estate Management, Architecture, or Civil Engineering, or URP with a least 3rd Class or HND In URP, Architecture, or Estate Management with at least at credit level pass.

 

 

FACULTY OF LAW

 

M.Phil/Ph.D. Programmes

Entry Requirements:

To qualify for admission to the M.Phil/Ph.D (Law) programme, the candidate must possess a Masters in Law (LL.M) degree awarded by this or any other approved University. In addition to this, the candidate must have obtained a weighted score average of 60% and above at the end of his/her LL.M programme.

 

In the case of the M.Phil/Ph.D (Law and Diplomacy) programme, the candidate must possess a M.A. Law and Diplomacy degree from the University of Jos, with a weighted score average of 60% and above.

 

Masters’ Programmes:

  1. Masters in Law (LL.M)
  2. M.A. Law and Diplomacy (MALD)

Entry Requirements:

To qualify for the admission to the LL.M Degree and M.A. Law and Diplomacy programmes, the candidate must possess at least a Second Class LL.B Degree awarded by this or any other approved University. For Law and Diplomacy, candidates with equivalent Degree in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, or other disciplines which the Postgraduate Committee of Law may take into account the legal, diplomatic, or other relevant experience of the candidate.

 

Generally, all candidates for admission into the LL.M and M.A. Law and Diplomacy programmes must have either completed the mandatory National Youth Service or has been duly exempted from the scheme by the National Youth Service Corp.

 

 

 

Other Requirements

All candidates must provide 3 satisfactory referees reports in support of their applications, attesting to their ability to undertake postgraduate studies in the University of Jos, Jos. One of such referees must be a person who has known the candidate in his capacity as a teacher or academic supervisor.

 

 

FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

 

  1. Department of Accounting and Finance

M.Phil/Ph.D. Programmmes:

Entry Requirements:

Admission into M.Phil/Ph.D Accounting and Finance requires a minimum Weighted Score Average (WSA) of 60% in M.Sc. Accounting, MBA (Accounting and Finance), M.Sc. or MBA (Finance) from a recognized University.

 

M.Sc. Programmes:

Entry Requirements:

The minimum qualification required is a first Degree in Accounting or equivalent qualifications plus a minimum of two years’ experience after first degree graduation. All first degrees must be at least Second Class lower Honours.

 

PGD Programmes:

Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting

Entry Requirements:

For postgraduate diploma in Accounting, a first degree, not less than second class lower division in any field other than Accounting or a third class in Accounting is required. Apart from bachelor’s degrees, those with HND with at least Lower Credit with additional Professional Qualifications such as ICA or ANAN can also apply.

 

  1. Department of Business Administration

M.Phil/Ph.D. Programmes:

M.Phil/Ph.D Management

Entry Requirements:

Admission into M.Phil/Ph.D Management requires a candidate with good Master of Science Degree in Management/Business Administration with at least an average of ‘B’ grade (60%) which includes course work and research thesis from a recognized University.

 

Master’s Programmes:

  2. Executive Masters in Business Administration

Entry Requirements:

The M.Sc. Management programme requires five credit passes including English Mathematics and Economics/Commerce at O’ Level shall have obtained. Also, a Bachelor Degree in Business Management/Administration with a minimum of Second class (lower) from a recognized University.

 

PGD Programmes:

Postgraduate Diploma in Management

Entry Requirements:

For a diploma in Management, five credit passes, including English and Mathematics at “o” Level, a first degree, not less than a third class in any field is required.

 

 

FACULTY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES

 

  1. Department of Human Physiology

M.Phil/Ph.D. Programmes:

M.Phil/Ph.D. Human Physiology (with areas of specialization in Endocrinology, Gastrointestinal Physiology, Haematology, Natural Products of System Physiology, Neurophysiology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Renal Physiology, Respiratory System, Cardiovascular System)

Entry Requirements:

Candidates for MSc. Human Physiology shall have a First or second class Upper DVM, Dentistry, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Pharmacy, Optometry and Zoology of a recognized University.

Entry Requirements:

For the M.Phil/Ph.D, a candidate must possess Master’s Degree in Anatomy with a minimum CGPA of 4.0 (or WSA of 60%) and return a score of 60% and above in his/her research project.

 

M.Sc. Programmes:

M.Sc. Human Anatomy

Entry Requirements:

For the M.Sc. programme, candidates with a first Degree in Anatomy, Medicine, Physiotheraphy, Dental Surgery and Zoology with specialization in Primate Biology are eligible.

M.Phil/Ph.D. Programmes:

M.Phil/Ph.D Biochemistry

Entry Requirements:

For M.Phil/Ph.D in Biochemistry, candidates must have academic Master’s degree in iv.   Public Health and Sanitary Microbiology Biochemistry and/or Molecular Biology or equivalent areas with a minimum CGPA of 4.00 and thesis score not lower than 60% (B) or Weighted Score Average (WSA) of 60%.

 

M.Sc. Programmes:

M.Sc. Biochemistry

Entry Requirements:

For M.Sc. Biochemistry, candidates must possess with Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and/or Molecular Biology with a minimum of second class lower division from a recognized University. The selection process is based on the quality of the academic transcript of the first degree. There maybe an interview. Candidates with MBBS degree and FIMLT Clinical Biochemistry with at least two years post qualification experience may also be considered. However, such candidates must take a concessional written entrance examination and subsequent interviews.

All candidates must demonstrate adequate intellectual capacity, maturity and effective decision making and problem solving potentials

The MPH programme is open to graduates with first degree in relevant science based courses with minimum CGPA of 3.0 from the University of Jos or any other institution recognized by the Senate of the University of Jos.

 

The candidate must possess other entry requirements of the University of science-based Disciplines. Basic admission requirements set by University of Jos for Master’s Degree courses including a minimum of five credits in relevant subject at school certificate level.

 

MBBS or BDS, DVM, Pharmacy, and BMLD degree

 

Graduates of health sciences in Nursing, Biochemistry and Physiology with at least 2nd Class lower division with minimum of CGPA 3.00 may be considered.

 

Graduates of health related courses in Human Nutrition, Demography, Health Education, Environmental Health and Biostatistics with at least 2nd Class lower division with minimum of CGPA 3.00 and at least 4 yearsworking experience in a Public Health role may also be considered.

 

Graduate of other science based courses with 2nd Class lower with minimum of CGPA 3.0 and at least 5 years’ experience in a Public Health role.

 

  1. M.Sc. Clinical Epidemiology

Entry Requirements:

The M.Sc. Clinical Epidemiology programme is open with clinical science related disciplines and MBBS/BDS degrees with minimum CGPA of 3.0 from the University of Jos or any other institutions recognized by the Senate of the University of Jos.  The Candidate must possess other entry requirements of the University for science-based Disciplines with a minimum of five (5) credits in relevant subjects as School Certificate level.

  • Basic admission requirements set by University of Jos for Master Degree course.
  • MBBS or BDS degree with at least 4 years’ experience in Clinical Practice.
  • Candidates from Research Based Clinical institutions will have an advantage.

 

Mode of Admission/Admission Criteria

Prospective candidates shall apply for admission following an advertisement by the Postgraduate School of the University of Jos.  The Postgraduate admission committee of the Department of Community Medicine will then select candidates through a competitive process.

 

Specific Requirements

The M.Sc. Clinical Epidemiology programme is a full time course covering a minimum period of twelve (12) months and maximum of eighteen (18) months.  All M.Sc. Clinical Epidemiology students shall take foundational courses, which provide a common body of knowledge in Public Health Philosophy and Practice.  All students shall be required to take all core courses.  Clinical Epidemiology students shall take five (5) compulsory foundational courses in Public Health and all core courses for core courses for the award of MSc Clinical Epidemiology with a minimum of 36 credit units.  The Dissertation shall be orally defended before a panel consisting of both internal and external examiners

 

  1. M.Sc. Field Epidemiology

The Programme:

The course is open to candidates who possess first degree in relevant science-based courses with minimum CGPA of 3.0 from the University of Jos or any other institution recognized by the Senate of the University of Jos.  Evidence of current employment within the Public Health system in Nigeria and a written commitment to return to work post and serve for at least three years after graduation, will be an added advantage.  The candidate must possess other entry requirements of the University for science-based Discipline.

 

Basic admission requirements set by University of Jos for Master Degree courses including a minimum of five credits in relevant subjects at school certificate level.

Entry Requirements:

Candidates for the degree MPHIL/PhD in Reproductive Sciences must possess entry requirements of Master of Reproductive Sciences with a final average score of 65% in the final examination. Without prejudice to the relevant provision of the enabling regulations, the department expects each candidate to meet the following specific requirements.

  • This programme shall be by course work (including Pedagogy, ICT and Entrepreneurship), research seminar and thesis. The thesis shall be original work.
  • The course work shall be a maximum of 12 credit units. At the end of the course work a written assessment to determine the eligibility of the candidate to proceed with the research work.
  • A candidate admitted for the degree of M.Phil/Ph.D shall take a maximum of six credits load from the Master of Reproductive Sciences elective courses.
  • The Ph.D program shall normally last in the case of full-time, a minimum of 36 calendar months and a maximum of 60 calendar months, or in the case of part-time a minimum of 48 calendar months and a maximum of 72 calendar months.

A first degree in Medical Laboratory Science from a recognized University and should be duly registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria. The candidate must obtain a minimum of Second- class lower division in their fields or related disciplines.

 

Holders of FIMLS in any area of specialty in Medical Laboratory Science may be eligible to apply for admission into the programme.

Candidates with third class degree of the University of Jos or any other University in Microbiology, Biochemistry or relevant allied courses with three years post qualification experience may be admitted after obtaining a postgraduate diploma in Microbiology with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5 point scale and 3.00 on a 4 point scale. The eligibility of such candidates for admission shall be determined by the Postgraduate School Board in consultation with the Department.

 

Candidates with Postgraduate Diploma in Microbiology or any other relevant allied disciplines with a minimum of Lower Credit (CGPA of 3.50) of the University of Jos or any other recognized University with one year work experience may be admitted. Entry Requirements:

Candidates for the postgraduate diploma programme should possess honours degrees in disciplines outside of Psychology. Holders of Third Class Degrees in Psychology and related fields shall also be considered. This course is designed for re-tooling those whose initial degrees were outside of psychology or whose first degrees in Psychology or related areas were poor but are interested in pursuing higher degrees in Psychology. This program runs for two semesters. Candidates must also satisfy requirements of the University for B.Sc. Psychology.

Masters’ Programmes:

  1. M.Sc. Research and Public Policy
  2. M.Sc. International Relations and Strategic Studies
  3. M.Sc. Political  Economy and Development Studies
  4. M.Sc. Public Policy and Administration.

Entry Requirements:

For M.Sc. Research and Public Policy, a Master’s degree, or an Upper Second Class Bachelor’s degree(or its equivalent GPA) or a higher, or a lower SecondClass Bachelor’s degree, and at least two years’ experience in a research or policy field, or a postgraduate diploma.

 

Candidates for M.Sc. International Relations and Strategic Studies must possess a minimum of Second Class Lower degree from a recognized University in Political Science, Sociology, Law, Economics, History, or Mass Communication.

 

For M.Sc. Public Policy and Administration, candidates with at least a second class Honours degree upper division from a recognized university and with a cumulative Grade  point Average (CGPA) of not less than 3.00 in Public Administration, Political Science, Economics, Sociology will be accepted.

 

Candidates must also possess a pass at credit level in “O” level English Language

 

For M.Sc Political Economy and Development Studies, the above requirements apply.

 

  1. Department of Sociology

M.Phil/Ph.D. Programmes:

    1. M.Phil/Ph.D. Sociology
    2. M.Phil/Ph.D. Social Work

Entry Requirements:

Candidates for Doctorate must have a Master in Sociology. In exceptional cases candidates with a first degree background but a master in a related field may be considered.

 

M.Sc. Programmes:

  1. M. Sc. Sociology
  2. M.Sc. Social Work (MSW)

Entry Requirements:

Candidates for M.Sc. in either Sociology or Social Work must possess at least a Second Class Upper Division in Bachelor’s degree examinations. In very exceptional cases, a candidate with a Second Class Lower division in the bachelor’s examinations may be considered with a minimum CGPA of 3.00.  With regard to candidates for MSW, a Second Class Degree Lower Division obtained in any discipline from a recognized University is required.

 

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes:

  1. Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work (PGDSW)
  2. Postgraduate Diploma in HIV/AIDS Studies

Entry Requirements:

For Postgraduate Diploma in HIV/AIDS, candidate must have a first degree or HND from the University of Jos.

 

 

CENTRE FOR CONFLICT MANAGEMENT AND PEACE STUDIES

M.Phil / Ph.D. Programmes:

M.Phil/Ph.D Conflict Management and Peace studies

Entry Requirements:

All candidates must:

  • Meet the matriculation requirements of individual universities, including a credit pass in English language at ‘O’ level.
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree from an approved university with a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower division) in the relevant discipline.
  • Possess a master’s degree with a CGPA of at least 3.5 on a 5.0 point scale in the relevant discipline.

 

M.Sc. Programmes:

M.Sc. Conflict Management and Peace studies

Entry Requirements:

Candidates for M.Sc. Conflict Management and Peace studies must possess a minimum entry qualification of Second class lower Degree B.Sc. or B.A. from the University of Jos or any other recognized institution, in any of the relevant fields in the Social Sciences and the Humanities, or its equivalent. Candidates with a class of degree lower than second class lower, but who additionally possess a postgraduate Diploma in Conflict Management and Peace Studies will also be eligible.

M.Phil/Ph.D. Programmes:

Entry Requirements:

For the M.Phil/Ph.D. programmes, the candidate should possess an M.A. or M.Sc. Degree in the Humanities or any field related to gender and women’s studies and must have not less than a 60% Weighted Score Average in Master’s Degree from a recognized University to be eligible.

 

Masters’ Programmes:

  2. M.Sc. Gender Studies

Candidates for M.A. and M.Sc. Programmes in Gender and Women Studies should possess a minimum entry qualification of Second class lower Degree B.Sc. or B.A. from the University of Jos or any other recognized institution, in any of the relevant fields in the Social Sciences and the Humanities, or its equivalent. Candidates with a class of degree lower than second class lower, but who additionally possess a PG Diploma in relevant fields will also be eligible.
